Can Transmit or Coda connect to a Mac via SFTP?
Most certainly! The SFTP server on your Mac is disabled by default, but here’s how you can enable it.
- Open System Preferences, located in
- Click the Sharing preference pane
- Click the checkbox next to Remote Login to enable it.
That’s it! Your Mac will now allow SFTP connections. From here, it’s a matter of configuring Transmit/Coda:
When you add a new SFTP connection, you’ll need to use either the Mac’s local IP address or the Bonjour name as the server address.
To find the IP address, open System Preferences, then go to Network. Select your primary network connection and your IP address will be shown in the pane on the right.
For the username and password, use the credentials for your Mac’s user account.
Note: This will only work when all devices are connected to the same local network.
