As an additional layer of security, all Panic Sync-capable apps now support optional two-factor authentication (or “2FA”) both on the web and in-app.

What is 2FA?

Two-factor authentication adds one additional “factor” to the logging-in process. In the case of Panic Sync, you’ll log in using both your password, as you do today, and a special, always-changing code that’s generated by a 2FA app. This significantly increases the protection of your account, since just knowing your password would not be enough for someone to access your data. We highly recommend it.

Getting Started

Before you begin, you’ll need to have a 2FA app installed which supports QR codes. If you don’t have one, we recommend:

Enabling 2FA

⚠️ Once enabled, signing in to Panic Sync will always require your password and a six-digit code generated by your 2FA app of choice

  1. Sign in to Panic Sync using your existing account’s email address and password
  2. Navigate to Two-Factor Authentication and re-enter your Panic Sync account password when prompted
  3. Using your 2FA app, scan the QR code that appears on your screen
  4. Enter the six-digit code generated by your 2FA app
  5. Click the Enable-Two Factor Authentication button

💡 Don’t forget to store your new Recovery Codes in a safe place

Disabling 2FA

If you would like to turn off 2FA for your Panic Sync account:

  1. Sign in to Panic Sync using your email address, password and six-digit 2FA code
  2. Navigate to Two-Factor Authentication and enter your Panic Sync account password when prompted

What If I’ve Lost My Authenticator App and My Recovery Codes?

If you happen to lose access to your 2FA authenticator app, as well as your recovery codes, your account unfortunately cannot be accessed by you or Panic.

You can perform a password reset, which will reset the password on your account, disable 2FA, and remove any sync’d data from Panic Sync. Data will remain on any sync’d devices, and can be re-uploaded by logging into those devices with your new password.
